ISLAMABAD: On the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Vice Admiral M Amjad Khan Niazi as a new naval chief.
According to the details, Niazi’s promotion to the Admiral rank will be effective from the date of assuming Command of Pakistan Navy.
Vice Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan will be replacing Admiral Zafar Mahmood, who will renounce the Command of Pakistan Navy on 7th October.
Admiral Abbasi, who took the charge as naval chief in 2017, met with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during his a farewell visit to the Pakistan Army headquarters on Wednesday, according to the ISPR.
General Bajwa thanked Admiral Abbasi for his services to the nation during his long and illustrious career.
As per the reports, the Change of Command ceremony will be held at PNS Zafar, Islamabad.
Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi had joined the Pakistan Navy in 1983. The Sword of Honor recipient, the Admiral has a distinguished career with various Command and Staff appointments’ experience.
He has been awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Basalat by the Government of Pakistan.
Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi’s major command appointments include Commanding Officer PNS BADR, Commanding Officer PNS TARIQ, Commander18th Destroyer squadron, Commandant PNS BAHADUR, and Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore.
