Shab e Barat Date 2022 in India, शब-ए-बारात History and Celebration

Muslims around the world celebrate the Shab-e-Barat festival with splendor and enthusiasm. They believe that God writes the future of all people by reckoning all the past deeds they committed on the night of Shab-e-Barat. Basically, Shab-e-Barat means the night of forgiveness or the Day of Reconciliation.

Shab e Barat Meaning

‘Shab-e-Barat’ is a Persian word made up of two different words, ‘Shab’ meaning night and ‘Barat’ which in Persian means ‘night of payment or allotment’. In Arabic, the day is known as Lailatul Bara, which means the night of liberation.

When is Shab e Barat 2021 in India?

This year, the Islamic month of Shaban is expected to begin in March 2021. So, according to the expected date, Shab e Barat is expected at midnight on April 29-30, 2021.

Shab e Barata 2021 History

The tradition of celebrating this holiday goes back to the Qur’an. According to Shab-e-Barat, the following verses of the Holy Qur’an are associated with this holiday.

“Surely, We have sent it (the Holy Qur’an) down on a blessed night. Surely, We are the Warner. In this (night) judgment is given on all matters of wisdom (separately) by Our Command.” (Sura Ad-Dukhan, 44:3-5)

Imam Qurtubi and Imam Jalal-ud-Din Suyuti have stated that these verses refer to Leylatun Nisf min Shaban or Shab-e-Barat. It would not be wrong to say that the whole month of Shaban is deserving. It was narrated by Khazar Aisha, the mother of the faithful:

“The Prophet did not fast in any month more than Shaban.” (Sahih Bukhari)

Shab e Barata Celebrations

All the mosques were lit with a series of colorful light bulbs and paper, cellophane. The mosques were full of worshipers and they were praying. Thousands of candles and threads of electric bulbs illuminate houses and streets and thus create a joyful ambiance.

The Holy Qur’an is read and spiritual songs are sung all night Shab-e-Barat. Muslims pray to God and read the Holy Qur’an all night to forgive them for their evil deeds. They visit the cemetery early in the morning and offer flowers, read the destiny for the peace of close souls.

All people enjoy a delicious delicacy, Sevaiyan or vermicelli. Wealthy people generously donate money, clothes, and goodies to the needy on behalf of their loved ones. It is generally believed that he will be forgiven if a certain person prays all night and asks for forgiveness. Some Muslims hold fast and worship nafal at night.
