Laylat al Qadr (also known as Laylat al Qadr, Laylatul Qadr, Lailatul Qadr 2020 / Lailatul Qadar) is an Arabic world which means “Night of Power”, “Night of Decree” in English.In many Islamic countries, this day is observed on one of the odd nights of the last nights of Ramadan before Eid al-fitr which is the 21st, 23rd, 25th or 27th. It is held during one of the last ten days of Ramadan.
Ramadan ul Mubarik is the holiest month in Islamic calander and Laylat Al Qadr is the holiest night of Ramadan. As mentioned in the beginning, this night is better than a thousand months and worshiping on this night is better than eighty-three years of worship. Only this reason itself should encourage a true Muslim to spend this night in prayer, Dua & Dhikr, seeking forgiveness and ask Allah for all the blessings of this world and hereafter.
This night is so valuable that the Quran devotes a special Surah to it i-e Surah Al-Qadr (97).
When Laylatul Qadr is Observed?
Although the exact night on which Laylatul Qadr occurs has not been mentioned anywhere, however, Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) has directed us to seek Laylat Al Qadr during the odd nights of last 10 days of Ramadan. The same is also evident from the following Hadith:
Narrated by Aishah (R.A.) that Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) said:
In another narration, the Prophet said,
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1916, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1169)
Ubaida ibn al-Samit reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to inform people about the Night of Decree in Ramadan, but two Muslim men were insulting each other. The Prophet said,
“Verily, I have come out to tell you about the Night of Decree, but two men were insulting each other. Thus, its knowledge was removed, perhaps it is best for you. Search for it during the seventh, ninth, or fifth night of the last ten nights.” (Sahi Al Bukhari:49)
Hazrat Ibn Umar (R.A) Narrated that Messenger of Allah said:
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ يَعْنِي لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فَإِنْ ضَعُفَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَوْ عَجَزَ فَلَا يُغْلَبَنَّ عَلَى السَّبْعِ الْبَوَاقِي
Significance of Laylatul Qadr
There are many Quranic Ayahs and Hadiths about the importance and significance of this blessed night. The Holy Quran was first sent down from heaven on this night. The same is also evident from the following Ayahs of Quran:
The Revelation of the Holy Quran; a sign of Mercy, a guide and a blessing of Allah to mankind. Anyone who is interested in finding the best guide, he/she should look into the teachings of Quran Kareem. This Night is better than Thousand Months.Allah says in Quran:
This means worshipping Allah in Laylatul Qadr is better, in reward, than worshipping Him a thousand months, which is equal to 83 years and 4 months.
Laylatul Qadr Dua
The following dua (prayer) is recited within the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) which is to be searched for within the lasy 10 nights of the month of Ramadan.
Hazrat Aisha (R.A) said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ the Holy Prophet said:
“ اللَّهمَّ إنَّكَ عفوٌّ تحبُّ العفوَ فاعفُ عنِّي”
According to Sunnah, Laylat Al Qadr falls on the odd nights of the last ten days of Holy month Ramadan either 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th night of Ramadan. However, it has mostly been emphasized that it is most likely to be the 27th night of Ramadan.
When is Laylatul Qadr 2020?
As we all know that Laylat al Qadr is one among the odd nights of last 10 days of Ramadan, therefore This year, Laylatul Qadr 2020 is predicted to be observed on Wednesday , May 20th, in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia.
